Motherhood is...

Motherhood is holding the tiniest hand for the first time, seeing your own eyes and your

husband’s mouth on a perfect face, hearing the cry that you know belongs to your baby and no

one else, and loving, always loving.

Motherhood is coloring outside the lines, building Lego firehouses and spaceships, making

mudpies in the yard, dancing to music, baking cookies, reading stories, laughing, and loving,

always loving.

Motherhood is going to the bathroom with the door open, taking a shower with the curtain

partly closed, having no free time, making dinner with a babe in one arm, sleeping on the floor

beside the crib, and loving, always loving.

Motherhood is canceling an important trip to care for a sick child, staying in the hospital with

them when they are diagnosed with a serious illness, watching movies with them when anxiety

takes hold, forgiving them when they make a mistake, and loving, always loving.

Motherhood is going to baseball games, going to orchestra concerts, going to basketball games,

going to band concerts, going to musicals, cheering them on, showing up, supporting their

interests, and loving, always loving.

Motherhood is marveling at the adult, holding memories close to your heart, knowing when to

let them go, and loving, always loving.
